And how.
There is a reason why we love talking. Humans love communication. Why do we love communication? We do because we are social animals. Don’t worry, it’s not you, it’s humanity. Years of evolution has brought us here.
And let me not misrepresent communication here by saying that it’s just words. Most of our communication is non-verbal. You are talking more by just lovingly staring at the gift your friend gave you, than probably by saying “thankyou” a zillion times.
In communication, there is reassurance. A sort of a primate validation, if you will. We’re all, in some way, seeking this.
Why are we writing to our “future” selves ?
There is nothing more precious than seeing oneself succeeding in goals set by our own selves. Not what the ones that society wants us to “succeed”, but the ones we want to.
By writing to your future self, you can measure the goals achieved with regards to what your past self thought you would in the future.
What can be measured, can be improved quickly.
It works the other way too. When you receive a letter in the future from your past self, you can draw how different you were back when you wrote it. Maybe your writing habits, hand-writing, usage of words, ideas and such.
It will be amusing. I can absolutely guarantee that. You’ll be all nostalgic & amused with you taking time out of your life, to write to yourself. You’ll probably make yourself smile. Being years apart from yourself, you’ll be way closer to your yester-self than ever.
The last reason, because it is f*cking amazing. Imagine how awesome it would be to read something you wrote to be delivered to your self, in the future. Until time machines are here, let’s stick to doing this by hand. ;)
Okay, I’m sold. How do I do it ?
There are many ways to do it. Here’s one of the methods that will have the least resistance to start writing this letter.
